Position Summary:



This role is an exciting opportunity to make an impact on the plant's risk management strategy and safety initiatives. Performs safety related duties at the manager level and in conjunction with corporate organizational initiatives. May carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: employee and customer relations, training, loss control, and safety programs. Facilitates programs, initiatives and grievance resolution in the best interest of customers, employees and the company. Responsible for maintaining compliance with OSHA and other regulated agencies as required. Improve the quality of worker's compensation claim handling practices and insure that this quality of claim handling is consistent for all claims. Must be able to create a team environment and instill safety standards as one of the organizations key cultural values. Maintains the utmost integrity, professionalism and strict confidentiality at all times.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of claims administration, employment and safety regulations, effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. Must be able to organize and prioritize duties effectively. Must be proficient in computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook. Must have the ability to learn and effectively utilize carrier claims management and analysis online systems.





Position Responsibilities:



Will be accountable for achieving strategic objectives in the areas of loss prevention, reductions in worker's compensation incidents, implementation of safety programs and OSHA compliance and recordkeeping.


Insuring effective hazard identification and mitigation for plant operations and administrative offices. Responsible for conducting safety walks on daily basis to ensure safe practices are being observed and to note any unsafe acts, faulty equipment or non-compliance with any safety related policies. Follows up promptly on corrections required.


Must possess ability to analyze, develop and implement programs, plans and initiatives by directly performing all activities or by successfully delegating to others as the task and situation dictates.


Ability to write, develop, disseminate and deliver training programs.


Demonstrates expertise in a variety of safety and loss control concepts, practices and procedures.


Must exercise sound judgment and decision-making skills, along with ability to influence others in efforts to affect change in behavior and promote a ¡°Safety First" culture.


Provide leadership as a local champion of the Company's Safety Culture and continue to take steps to promote safety in the workplace.


Ability to work closely with Quality Assurance team on projects to insure consumer product safety.


Implement and lead an Emergency Action Response Team within facility.


Insure plant-wide compliance with all OSHA or other state/local laws and regulations, including the Company's Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal and state regulations concerning employment and safety related requirements. Insures communications to plant operations and corporate management. May perform ad hoc compliance audits.


Directly responsible for overall claims management of all insurance claims of Florence location, including worker's compensation, general liability, property and auto claims. Work in coordination with General Counsel and Vice President, Human Resources and Risk Management regarding litigated claims as necessary.


Participate in claim reviews quarterly with broker and carriers for both worker's compensation, auto and general liability claims in order to expedite claims resolution and closures.


Responsible for driving company-wide loss control initiatives in Florence to develop company safety culture and awareness and to decrease claim costs and frequency.


Chair Plant Safety Committee. Insure meetings are held on a monthly basis with the full committee and also include the Office Administration Committee Members on a quarterly basis.


Responsible for the development and delivery of training modules to support safety and risk management initiatives.


Supply information to corporate headquarters in support of renewal process for corporate insurance policies which include: worker's compensation, general liability, property and auto.


Insure that Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are compliant, maintained, current and audited at all plant locations.


Insure that all fire suppression systems are in working order, compliant, maintained and audited at all plant locations.


Work in conjunction with Plant Director and other operations management to insure Company Good Manufacturing Practices and procedures required by customers in the areas of safety and health are communicated, trained and observed by all associates. Follow up on disciplinary action required for unsafe work practices in conjunction with HR Manager.


Insure the development and regular communication of plant and administrative office emergency evacuation plans.


Participates in and supports efforts of Company's Crisis Management Committee and Crisis Management Plan.


Maintains all records required for appropriate recordkeeping.


May also be requested to assist at other plants and other satellite locations nationwide on a project or as-needed basis.


Coordinates management of work-related injuries and illnesses.


Assists and contacts injured associate immediately upon notification of injury (answers questions, promotes management concern and support).


Reports all applicable on the job injuries (via website) to our worker's compensation carrier in a timely manner (within 24 hours). Completes and confirms accuracy of First Report of Injury.
